How It Works & Methodology
A tip (or gratuity) is an extra sum of money given to service workers in addition to the bill as a reward for their service.
Standard Formulas:
- Tip Amount = Bill Amount × (Tip Percentage / 100)
- Total Amount = Bill Amount + Tip Amount
- Total Per Person = Total Amount / Number of People

Global Tipping Culture Differences
United States & Canada: Tipping is deeply rooted in hospitality and customary across almost all service encounters, as tipped employees often earn a lower base minimum wage.
Europe: Tipping is generally modest (5%–10% or rounding up the bill). A service charge ("service compris") is frequently included in the final bill.
East Asia (Japan, South Korea, China): Tipping is not customary in regular restaurants and may cause confusion or even be viewed as improper, as great service is considered standard.
